One of our long-term patients, Elizabeth from Queens Park, visited our clinic last Monday. She came in for her regular check-up and clean. At the appointment, she asked me, “Hey Peter, I’m looking at getting dental implants for my dad. He’s got a couple of missing teeth. Are dental implants the best solution for him?”

After I explained to her how dental implants work, she felt really comfortable and booked her father in.

There are a lot of people with missing teeth who are not familiar with this incredible treatment, so I thought I’ll make a quick video sharing with you what I shared with Elizabeth, just in case you and someone you care about have a missing tooth or a few missing teeth.

Dental implant is a second chance. It’s a God-sent. It is enlightenment because you’ve got a missing tooth/teeth or a bad tooth/teeth! and you probably haven’t chewed a good T-bone for a long time.

A dental implant is the solution!

An implant is a biomechanical replacement of biology. You either have a missing tooth, or you have an existing tooth that is terminal. It may have a lot of decay in it. It may have a failing root canal. It may have broken and snapped off at the gum margin. You may be in pain. It may not be restorable with another root canal therapy. We make you partial bionic man or woman by removing that bad tooth and if you already have had that bad tooth removed, we replace it with either a single implant and or multiple implants.

A dental implant is a titanium screw which replicates the root of a natural tooth. That titanium screw has to be positioned appropriately within your jawbone to replicate the root of the tooth that is missing. Then, we fabricate a porcelain crown or tooth that has a specific anchor inside it that either clips or screws onto the implant that’s placed in your jaw. It’s a two-part process. The result is you replacing a missing tooth.

Now that can be extended to include multiple missing teeth in the form of an implant bridge and/or going into what we call “full-arch treatment”, where patients have no teeth at all and are wearing dentures or have got terminal teeth and need them all extracted.

In those incidences, we progress into the all-teeth-on-four or all-on-six or all on whatever’s appropriate for you, where a number of implants are strategically positioned in your jawbone. Then, they will carry a full-arch implant bridge on top of that to give you back the function, aesthetics, and facial stability that you’ve lost.
