Crown Lengthening

Ideally, you should show a minimal amount of gum tissue when smiling or talking but this isn’t always the case. If you show an excessive amount of gum, you could have what’s known as a gummy smile that could be corrected through crown lengthening.

What Is Crown Lengthening?

Crown lengthening is a procedure that will remove excess gum tissue, ensuring that your gums nicely frame your teeth and improving their cosmetic appearance. To do this, Dr Poulos will use an advanced dental laser to remove the excess tissue in a way that is extremely precise. Our dental laser combines laser energy with a fine spray of water, creating a more comfortable experience for our patients. Additionally, healing is faster with fewer side effects.

Crown Lengthening in Preparation for Crowns

Dr Poulos may suggest crown lengthening in preparation for having new crowns. During this procedure, gum and bone tissue can be carefully reshaped, which can be useful if you have a tooth that is decayed or which is broken off below the gum line and where there is insufficient structure for a new restoration. By exposing more of the natural tooth, Dr Poulos can fully restore your tooth while protecting it against any further damage.
